Ben Bobbitt - Principal

I am thrilled to be Boise Valley Adventist School's principal. My wife and I have lived all over the country in the past but we love calling Idaho home. I have worked with children in various capacities for over 10 years. I've been both a Vice Principal and a teacher, along with a coach and Athletic Director. I am passionate about building relationships with each student and their family.
Bringing students closer to Jesus is my goal each and every day. I met my wife, Dani, while attending Southern Adventist University. She is the current PreK/K teacher.

We love everything outdoors. You are more than welcome to visit with me at BVAS. I welcome your input, ideas, and prayers for our children and staff.

Daniella Bobbitt - PreK/K Teacher

Hello! My name is Dani Bobbitt, and this is my 8th year teaching, and my second year at BVAS!

I am originally from the East Coast, but lived in the Northwest for 4 years and I am so excited to return. I graduated from Southern Adventist University with a degree in Elementary Education with an emphasis in Biology and Spanish. I quickly found that I absolutely love early childhood education. Every day is full of excitement, enthusiasm and loads of fun. Their pure joy and deep compassion remind me every day that "the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these."

My husband's name is Ben, and we have a dog, Zoey. We love to spend our weekends staying active outdoors, exploring new places, and trying new restaurants.

I look forward to a wonderful year together and hearing "Ms. Dani!" in my classroom.

Melanie Lawson - 1st/2nd Grade Teacher

Welcome to the 1st & 2nd grade class! My name is Melanie Lawson, and I look forward to a great year with your children.

I am a graduate of Walla Walla University, where I received a Bachelor's in Elementary Education and a Master's in Curriculum & Instruction. In addition, I hold endorsements in Special Education, Elementary Education, Psychology, and Religion and am state and denominationally certified, with my most recent achievement adding STEM certification.

I have taught for over 30 years, 19 of which have been at Boise Valley Adventist School. When I'm not teaching, I enjoy nature, puzzles, and spending time with my family.

The purpose of our class is for each child to know Jesus and His unconditional love for them. To learn of His character traits and model them in their own lives. It is a privilege to work in God's ministry and share His love with others, and I am refreshed every time a child smiles, learns a concept, or lights up with a new discovery. In my classroom:

  • I believe God should be the center of our class.
  • I believe learning is a lifelong adventure.
  • I believe in facing each day with my mind open to knowledge and heart open to love.
  • I believe in the freedom to wonder, to ask, to explore, and to create.
  • I believe that success means doing our best, being our best, and feeling proud of our efforts.
  • I believe every child has special talents.
  • I believe in the God given value of each child.

Informative field trips, creative educational activities, developing friendships, and worshiping God through our curriculum are just a few of the highlights in our class.

God's presence and blessings are apparent in our school, and I look forward to another great year working in His mission field.

Please feel free to email me if you have any questions. mlawson@bvas.org

Sabrina Seigal - 3rd/4th Grade Teacher

Hello! I am Sabrina Seigal, and I am the 3rd and 4th grade teacher at Boise Valley.

I graduated from Walla Walla University with a bachelor's in elementary education and a math minor. I am very passionate about math, and I can't wait to share that enthusiasm in the classroom.

One of the biggest goals that I have for my classroom is for my students to know who Jesus is and how to be more like Him. This includes learning how to treat others, how to help those in need, and how to build and maintain a relationship with God.

I love to incorporate small group learning into the classroom so that I can spend time with each student regularly. While I am passionate about STEM and excited to incorporate it more in my classroom, I also enjoy the arts, and I'm excited to show my students how STEM and the humanities can work together. While academics are very important, I also believe that school is a place to teach students how to be friends, how to care for themselves, and how to think critically.

I love to continue learning in my free time by picking up new hobbies and researching topics that I find interesting. Some of my hobbies include reading, playing the guitar, crocheting, and traveling.

I'm so excited for another great year at BVAS!

Steve Stokes - 5th/6th Grade Teacher

Before coming to Boise Valley Adventist School, I was the Principal and 5th-8th teacher at Simi Valley Elementary. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri, and attended Union College. After graduation, I started teaching in Southern California beginning in 1983. I took a 5-year detour, from 2009 to 2014, to teach internationally in South Korea, Saudi Arabia, and China. I consider myself a lifelong educator with a passion for building vision in each educational system I have taught in. God has given me a life full of adventure that I enjoy sharing in my classroom. Come into grades five and six at any given time; you will most likely see at one time or another the following tendencies:

  • Students in a collaborative environment, even when many students prefer to work alone. Collaboration fosters the development of new ideas and exposes students to opposing viewpoints.
  • Students are working on projects that generate opportunities for creative expression. These projects allow for surprising outbursts of understanding.
  • Topics are approached in an inquiry-based context. Allowing students to come a new topic as an answer to a question is a cornerstone of my class instruction.
  • Journal writing is often considered a dying art, but not in my room. We use writing skills in almost every subject.
  • Hands-on learning provides a fantastic opportunity to give the students another anchor for learning.

As the needs continue to change, I will continue to integrate the necessary flexibility to ensure that each child has the best opportunity to gain the highest level of success at the next level.

With all the high expectations that academic rigor brings, it is clear to all my students that every skill and talent they have is God-given. By using their talents to the highest degree, they honor God the Creator. We daily rededicate our lives to the highest purpose of service in our commitment to Jesus Christ.

Jamie Miller - 7th/8th Grade Teacher

I am so excited to start my 23rd year of teaching and my 3rd year of teaching at Boise Valley Adventist School! I have loved teaching in the valley for my entire career and wouldn't want to teach anywhere else.

I attended Walla Walla College and completed my degree in Elementary Education with a minor in PE. From 2007-2011, I spent my summers studying at Walla Walla University completing a Master of Education with an emphasis in Educational Leadership.

I am an outdoor and travel enthusiast! I love living in Idaho with all the mountains, rivers, trails and ski resorts. I spend my free timing running, hiking, skiing, rafting, traveling and reading a good book with my cat, River, on my lap. I've traveled to many different countries and to 39 of the 50 states.

I look forward to meeting all my students, learning with them, preparing them for high school, and having an amazing school year together!

Gerry Essink - Office Manager

I started my career at Boise Valley Adventist School before the 2010-2011 school year. As I kick off my 16th year, I have many fond memories and look forward to making more with your children. I wear multiple hats as office manager, secretary, administrative assistant, receptionist, assistant treasurer, bookkeeper, accounts payable and receivable clerk, librarian, unofficial nurse, and aide, and much more! People ask me if I like my job and I don't . . . I LOVE it!

My husband Tim and I have a son and daughter that are BVAS alumni and now attend Walla Walla University and Gem State Adventist Academy. It is our desire to raise kind, respectful, God-fearing individuals that will be a valuable part of society now, and be in His kingdom eternally. We pray that between our church, our school and our home, they have the opportunity to be valuable members of the Adventist community.

I welcome you to stop by Boise Valley Adventist School and I will show you around our beautiful facility. I hope to see you soon!
